Pardons procedures have changed and we will now be addressing a need for a Record Suspension. The various requirements for application have also changed and now are much more challenging! The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is the body located in Ottawa with the power to grant, deny and revoke Record Suspensions (Pardons). No one else is authorized to perform this function. The PBC receives Record Suspension applications from persons who have been convicted of a crime(s) under the Criminal Code, National Food & Drug Act, and other regulations; In other words, from persons who have been found guilty in a court of law of an offense which may appear in RCMP files and on background checks.
To be eligible for a Record Suspension from the PBC, applicants must meet a number of requirements:
- An applicant must meet all the legal requirements.
- Must show that they have been of good conduct.
- It must be established that all the dispositions of the Court have been completed: all fines and compensation orders, etc. have been paid and there are no incomplete probation orders in place.
